For those of us concerned about the planet and being as "green" as we possibly can, I want to take this time to explain our largest mill's use of recycled papers.
Neenah Paper, which CMW is a Master Distributor for, does not use post-consumer recycled fiber in their heat transfer papers. NPI uses pre-consumer recycled fiber meaning that it is the trim waste and other waste from its mills, converting operations and internal processes. NPI do not use waste that has been to the curb or post-consumer recycled fiber in their heat transfer papers. The reason is that most or all of the post-consumer fiber is contaminated with printing inks, glue, toner particles and plastics. These can melt in the heat press and cause the melt to appear as a defect on the finished garment. Although less likely, depending on the contaminant they can reach a temperature where they can ignite. (Many end users to save time significantly increase the temperature and reduce the time in the heat press.)
Neenah Paper heat transfer papers can be recycled in curbside collection programs that recycle office waste or newsprint and magazines.
But using post-consumer fiber is very important to Neenah Paper, they are a major user and one of the first and perhaps best at using 100% post consumer fiber to make premium printing papers. These are available under the names ENVIRONMENT® and the CLASSIC® brands. Neenah Paper has received awards for its recycling, use of green energy and our promotions of recycling and certification programs.
